Background
Graduating from the Swedish School of Textiles a year ago with a Masters of Fine Art (2006-08) and obtaining a BA (Honours) in Decorative Arts from Nottingham Trent University (2003-06), Laura Alice is an emerging artist and illustrator based in Yorkshire.
Her work and inspirations
Laura’s work is largely inspired by nature. Since graduating, Laura has been busy creating a range of drawings, paintings and textile-based pieces that are strongly inspired by the Swedish forest - especially the unique mushroom formations she studied. These organic structures appear to be a repeating motif throughout her work – representing an association with Swedish myth and fairytales. Laura uses a mix of vivid contrasting colours and patterns to transform these studies of nature into semi-abstract decorative wall pieces.
Recent Exhibitions
As a relatively new artist on the scene, Laura has already exhibited at a range of quality art events. This year Laura has shown at Open Houses as part of the Saltaire Arts Trail, Bradford Playhouse, Holmfirth Art Week and at The Art House in Wakefield. In 2008 her work was displayed at the KG52 Gallery in Stockholm and again at The Art House, Wakefield as part of the studio holder’s exhibition.
